Earlier today, Gene Weldon passed away after his long fight with cancer. Gene was a lifetime member of the PGA of America and dedicated his professional career in Myrtle Beach, SC. Gene was the only Golf Professional at Gator Hole Golf Club from 1980 – 1999 until they closed for redevelopment. Just over 4 years ago, we (East Coast Golf Management) were very fortunate to hire Gene as our Director of Sales where he immediately became the face of the company. Very soon there after, Gene became a partner of ECGM as well. Throughout Gene’s career he was a true ambassador to the PGA of America, a friend, a father figure and a mentor to so many PGA Professionals and others. Gene was instrumental in the development of the Myrtle Beach Junior Golf Program that many of us either worked for, attended as a junior or had their kids involved. Later in his career, Gene spearheaded the First Tee of Brunswick County, NC which has their own 9 hole golf course, a learning center for kids and hosts summer camps. There is so much more we can say about Gene and if you do get a chance to read this, I am sure you have many instances in your life that Gene affected…Let me just end on this note…We are going to miss a “Legend” and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
Gene, you will be missed!
