East Coast Golf Management To Sponsor Salt Air Jam

This past Tuesday East Coast Golf Management signed a multi-year agreement to be title sponsor for the Salt Air Jam. Salt Air Jam (now the East Coast Golf Management Salt Air Jam) is an annual event to benefit cystic fibrosis (CF). The event consists of a music festival and golf tournament. Headlining the event this year is national recording artist, Edwin McCain. DiamondBack Golf Club at Woodland Valley will host the golf tournament.

In people with CF, a defective gene causes a thick, buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, the mucus clogs the airways and traps bacteria leading to infections, extensive lung damage and eventually, respiratory failure. In the pancreas, the mucus prevents the release of digestive enzymes that allow the body to break down food and absorb vital nutrients. There are only (appx) 30,000 people in the United States with the disease. The (relatively) “smallish” numbers make research and treatment a challenge even thought the disease is still considered terminal. The average life expectancy has increased from 2 or 3 years of age to age 38 over the past 30 years due to strides in early diagnosis and treatment.

Treatment for a family member suffering from CF can be financially devastating. Monthly costs can range from $7000 to to $30,000. While insurance does help many with the disease qualify for treatment, deductibles alone can be upwards of $10,000 per month. Most states (not including South Carolina) consider the disease a disability allowing state funded (Medicaid) programs to offer assistance. But, for those who cannot qualify due to income, the costs are overwhelming. In South Carolina a CF patient who is hospitalized with the disease can receive assistance, but those who have been healthy enough and fortunate to avoid hospitalization are left to fend for themselves. It is our hope to help the East Coast Golf Management Salt Air Jam grow and help support families who need assistance.

The concert /music festival will be held on May 19th at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex Amphitheater. The gates will open at 1 PM and the first band will go on stage at 2 PM. The line up will be: Mister Fifties; Jim Quick & Coastline; The Tim Clark Band; Trey Calloway (just added); and Edwin McCain. ECGM will provide admission and a hospitality VIP tent for our course representatives, golf providers, and their families.

The ECGM Salt Air Jam Scramble will be held Saturday May 20th (9:30 shotgun start) at DiamondBack Golf Club at Woodland Valley.  Golfers will receive breakfast, lunch, and prizes for their $100 dollar entry. A portion of each entry will go to support our cystic fibrosis cause. We expect the golf tournament to sell out, so get your entries in as soon as possible.

You can can get more information, enter the golf tournament, and purchase additional tickets at http://saltairjam.com. Tickets will also go on sale at all our associated golf courses the week of March 13th. Let’s all get behind this and make it successful for the cause, all our golf partners, and ECGM.
